Can You Mount a TV on Any Wall? All Wall Types Explained

← Back to Blog & FAQ

Short answer: yes, we can mount on virtually any wall. But different wall types require completely different tools, anchors, and techniques. Here's what you need to know about each surface found in Dallas homes.

Standard Drywall (Most Common)

The vast majority of Dallas homes have standard drywall over wood or metal studs. This is the easiest wall type to work with. We use a stud finder to locate the wood framing, drive lag bolts directly into the studs, and the mount is rock solid.

Metal studs: More common in newer construction and commercial spaces. Standard lag bolts won't work — we use toggle bolts rated for the TV's weight. Add-on cost: +$19.

Important: Never mount a TV using drywall anchors alone without hitting a stud, especially for TVs over 42". The anchor will fail eventually — often with the TV on it.

Brick Walls

Brick mounting requires masonry drill bits, hammer drills, and sleeve anchors rated for the load. The process is slower and louder than drywall but produces an extremely solid result. Add-on cost: +$59.

Older brick in historic Dallas neighborhoods can be soft or crumbly. We assess the brick quality before drilling and choose anchor types accordingly.

Concrete Walls

Similar to brick — masonry bits and concrete anchors. Concrete is usually denser and requires more powerful drilling equipment. Common in Dallas high-rises and commercial spaces.

Stone and Tile

Stone fireplaces and tile surrounds require diamond-tipped bits and careful technique to avoid cracking the surface. This is a specialty skill — the drill speed and pressure are completely different from standard masonry. Add-on cost: +$99.

Plaster Walls

Found in older Dallas homes (pre-1960s). Plaster is brittle and can crack easily. We use a different drilling approach and specific anchors designed for plaster-over-lathe construction.

Panel and Wood Walls

Shiplap, wood paneling, and similar surfaces are actually straightforward — similar to drywall but require verifying the backing structure. Samsung Frame TVs look particularly stunning on shiplap.

No matter what your wall is made of, call us and describe it — we'll tell you exactly what's involved and give you an upfront price before you commit to anything.
